About

Drum Lessons Leeds is the leading provider of drum tuition in West Yorkshire.

I am Brynn Reed, a professional session drummer and music graduate (first class honours) delivering drum lessons in Leeds, Bradford, Harrogate, York, Ilkley, Wakefield and Dewsbury.

As should be expected, I posess an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau background check and I'm a registered music teacher with the Musicians' Union.

I cover all levels, areas, and styles of drumming with structured lessons that build new skills based on modern performance learning methods. This includes lessons based on the Trinity Guildhall graded curriculum, which is professionally regarded as the highest standard within music education.

I'm based within a short walk from the Corn Exchange in Leeds city centre (with free parking), where I charge £20 per hour. Home visits are provided too (prices vary). Discounts are available for block booking.

Whether you are a novice wishing to try out the drums, or an experienced player wishing to enhance techniques, give me a call on 07894 163362 or send me an email at

Playing

My previous experience includes performing throughout England, including festivals such as Newcastle Freevolution and Oxjam, as well as numerous other festivals and venues in London.

Though I am certainly a technical drummer, I use this sparingly depending upon the musical situation. Of course I enjoy playing to my limit, however drums are designed for grooving and so supporting the song is always the main focus of my performance.

The Videos section includes some of my work. I hope you enjoy my playing.

Teaching

As a professional drum tutor I make it my responsibility to keep up to date with modern performance learning methods so as to enhance my effectiveness in teaching.

I take an ongoing interest in the works of top psychologists and physiologists such as A. C. Lehman, J. A Sloboda and F Mechner, who produce numerous studies into features of high-level performance learning.

Hallam (1998) describes effective practice as "that which achieves the desired end product, in as short a time as possible, without interfering with long term goals" (p. 142).

Lessons therefore provide the most direct route to skill acquisition based on up to date, modern techniques.
